COMMENTARY

The NFA Bowl - it represents an annual opportunity to reflect on not only the current season but on past seasons as well.  And surely the football historians will hearken back to the 2002 season, when the San Francisco Dogs faced and lost to the then Philadelphia Phanatics, now known as the Colorado Phanatics.  Both franchises over the League's eleven-year history have demonstrated themselves to be model franchises, San Francisco from the inception of the League and Colorado since 1999 but especially since 2002.
The San Francisco Dogs come into NFA Bowl XI by winning its fifth conference title game, this time against the expansion Michigan Bucks, 32-27.  Now back in the League Title Game, the Dogs have to feel like it has been eons since they have been here, and realistically speaking it has been.  This is the longest stretch (4 years) for the Dogs not being in the Championship Game, and it has the NFA's MVP, LaDainian Tomlinson, to thank for leading the team to this opportunity.  "What can you say about what L.T. has done?  All he does is score touchdowns," offered Dogs' owner / CEO Rex Hescock, "But we have to show that this team is not a one-trick pony.  Everyone has to contribute in order for the Dogs to win what we expect to win.  Vengeance, and I'm not talking Baltimore, is on my mind."
The Philadelphia Phanatics find themselves in the League Championship Game for the fourth time in five years, after having disposed of the expansion Richmond Fury, 37-27.  Still reeling from its unexpected loss to the Baltimore Vengeance in NFA Bowl IX, the Phanatics have bolstered its roster with a high-octane offense and stingy defense.  The strength of the team, though, may be how evenly spread out the talent is throughout the team.  Even the kicker is averaging over 100 FP per game.  "This may be a test of the evenly talented team versus the star-led team," commented Phanatics owner / CEO Andrew Trabosh, "It's not to say that we don't have stars on our team, but the Dogs are led right now by the League's MVP.  Let's see what the other players can do if the MVP isn't on his game this week."
